Pre-seed

The first outside money, usually before meaningful revenue.

Typically buys twelve to eighteen months to build the thing and find the first customers. Investors at this stage are backing the founders and the problem far more than the numbers, because there are barely any numbers.

That does not mean numbers do not matter. It means the ones that exist are read very closely, and a founder who knows their own figures cold stands out from one who does not.
